Volunteers Needed

The Planning committee is busy already planning for the 2007 event.  There are still positions that need to be filled. These positions are: 

AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY

Committee Position Descriptions

 

American Cancer Society Relay For Life – Philosophy Statement:

(Why We Relay)

The American Cancer Society Relay For Life represents the hope that those lost to cancer will never be forgotten, that those who face cancer will be supported, and that one day cancer will be eliminated.

 

The Committee:

The Relay For Life committee in conjunction with ACS Staff maintains responsibility for the planning and execution of the event.  During a planning process they work to meet the ACS National Relay Standards and raise funds that will be utilized toward the ACS Mission of research, education, advocacy and service.  The group is comprised of community leaders and volunteers who come together for a common goal from a wide variety of experiences and backgrounds. 

 

Expectations:

The Relay For Life is a partnership between the community (committee) and the American Cancer Society; as such each enters the relationship with some minimum expectations. 

Committee members expect:

1.       An overall training in the mission and goals of ACS.

2.       Training for the duties they will be undertaking.

3.       Meetings will be conducted in a timely, efficient manner and be respectful of the schedules of all involved.

4.       To be provided with staff support from ACS.

5.       To be acknowledged and thanked for their efforts.

6.       To participate as a part of a team that respects each member for their unique perspective and ideas.

7.       To be able to use their unique talents and expertise to accomplish specific goals

8.       A clear explanation of changes within ACS that impact your event.

The American Cancer Society expects:

1.       Committee members will attend meetings or provide a report of activities to the committee chair

2.       Committee members participate in training.

3.       Committee members will ask questions and problem solve as needed.

4.       Committee members will know the community and its resources.

5.       Committee members will be respectful of the limits of staff. 

6.       Committee members will honor time and other commitments

7.       To participate as a part of a team that respects each member for their unique perspective and ideas.

 

ACS Staff Responsibilities:

  1. Provide leadership and accountability for volunteers
  2. Provide information about ACS structure and programs
  3. Provide materials, expertise, technical support and continuity
  4. Organize and assist with volunteer training
  5. Maintain records
  6. Assist in planning and goal setting
  7. Interpret ACS policy
  8. Follow through on commitments
  9. Display full-time commitment to the cause
  10. Respect volunteers and their limits
  11. Communicate with volunteer and keep them informed

 

Coming together is a beginning, staying together is progress, and working together is success!!
